stunning four poster bed in excellent condition an original antique four poster dating
from 1840, this four poster bed was built in India for the Generals and officers of the British Raj
and due to
trading restrictions has been stored away for over a hundred years. This bed is
hand carved from solid mahogany and is much superior to the softer woods often
used to make these beds - because of the hard wood the carving is very detailed
and sharp and has remained in excellent condition for 150 years.
This four poster has beautifully carved posts with vines and tendrils
terminating in impressive capitols. The amount and quality of carving on this
four poster is exceptional and its crest has carved angels which is very rare. A
truly magnificent colonial four poster bed and a fascinating piece of history.
The outside dimensions of this bed are approximately 72 inch wide x 90 inch long.
This four poster bed will take a larger than average mattress - 5 foot 6 x 6 foot 6 long - we are able to supply a mattress made to measure for this bed see below. A

Condition report- under layers of dust this bed was in amazing condition and needed nothing replacing even the original patina was good. There are the usual signs of age but this bed has been well cared for over the last 150 years. The outdoor photographs below show the bed in India before restoration, as with all these beds restoration has been kept to a minimum - careful cleaning and polishing conserving the beautiful patina.
